Thyroid Optimization

The Thyroid is considered the master gland of the human body. Located in the neck, the thyroid gland is your body’s gas pedal. It controls how fast or slow just about every part of you goes.

Many common problems such as fatigue, depression and difficulty losing weight can be due to low thyroid, however, many people, are not getting the treatment that would be of great benefit.

The thyroid gland governs the body's metabolism and development through the production of thyroid hormones. These hormones set our body's metabolic rate, the rate at which our body's cells produce and utilize energy. If the thyroid hormone is not properly assimilated into the cell or converted to free T3 (the active thyroid hormone) the body runs at a lower energy level.

Thyroid Testing

Often doctors only measure the thyroids TSH levels to evaluate it. This has a disadvantage as the TSH level can be normal while the cellular activity of the gland is not.

We do a much more in depth study of your thyroid. Your initial thyroid lab tests (blood work) will include: thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (T4), free tri-iodothyronine (T3). TSH is produced by the pituitary gland and stimulates the thyroid gland to produce T4 and T3 the active thyroid hormones. Insufficient production of any one of these can lead to hypothyroidism. We also measure Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO) to look for underlying autoimmune issues.

Treatment

Optimizing and balancing your hormone levels can optimize your health and well-being Our treatment for secondary hypothyroidism includes: replacement with  Nature Throid, a bioidentical thyroid replacement medication that contains both T4 and T3. This treatment is usually very effective and quickly makes you feel better. Iodine is essential for proper thyroid functioning also. The best thing about correcting secondary hypothyroid responses is how good the patient feels when all those symptoms fade away.
